Overcome Hurt

Why does divorce hurt so much? Even though divorce may be the best choice for you and your family, there are times when it's excruciating and it hurts. It hurts when you see the sad look in your child's eyes. It hurts to realize the loss of hopes and dreams you've created together as a family. And now everything has changed. The feeling of aloneness and the overwhelm is hurtful. The words that you hear from your family can be hurtful. The things that you read online can be hurtful. The way that your spouse is acting and the things that they're saying can be very hurtful. There are so many reasons why divorce hurts and it is normal.

I want to share with you five ideas, and things that you can do to help when you're feeling so much hurt. Try them and find one or two that work for you.

Number One: Be there for someone else

When you're feeling a lot of pain and things are hurting, reach out to someone who you know is also struggling, someone who you know could use a friend. When we give what we need, we get what we need.

Number Two: Find the right professional

Find a divorce coach to work with. Working with a professional will give you space where you can learn and grow, where you can recreate and re-envision a future filled with hope and possibilities. A future that's exciting. You can think about things that you've never thought about. You can be inspired to do something new, to be something better.

Number Three: Exercise

Put your shoes on. Go for a walk around the block. Even better if you can go into nature.

Number Four: Create boundaries with your spouse

Creating boundaries will help you create the space that you need to heal. Give yourself that. Create boundaries around the communication that you have, and the time that you spend together.

Number Five: Focus on personal growth and self-awareness

Journal. Think. Grow. Learn. Listen to podcasts. Read books. Talk to professionals. This can be a wonderful opportunity for you to explore who you are, what you want, and who you want to be now and moving forward in the rest of your life.

Try it out. Hope this helps. If you feel like you need to speak with a professional, schedule a call with me and I can help you through this difficult time.

Know that you're perfect. Know that you're loved and know that you're worthy.
