6 Signs You're Subconsciously Sabotaging Yourself

Life can feel like a never ending juggling act. If you're trying to balance work and family and friends and everything else, and somehow you're always the one left exhausted and overwhelmed. You are in the right place. Here's the thing. If you've been waking up feeling drained or going to bed feeling frustrated, there's one simple habit that can change everything.

Seriously, it's like hitting the reset button on your emotional freedom. Today, I'll show you how to stop carrying resentment. Reclaim your energy, and finally feel more in control of your life and feel happier. And don't worry, this isn't some complicated process. It's practical. It's doable, and it works. Are you ready to take back your day? Increase your happiness. Let's dive in.

Here's the thing. You're stuck in a reactive cycle. Instead of owning your day, your day owns you. You're constantly putting out fires and leaving no space for yourself. And the result? Exhaustion, frustration, and that nagging feeling that things could just be a whole lot better. But you don't know how to make this happen. So what is the magical habit?

Gratitude. Yeah, I know it sounds basic, but hear me out. Practicing daily gratitude has been shown to transform not just your mindset, but your entire day. Here's why it works. Gratitude shifts your focus. Instead of dwelling on what's wrong or what's missing, you start noticing what's going right. It's like putting on a pair of glasses that make the good stuff stand out.

And when you focus on the good stuff, your energy shifts. You feel lighter. You feel calmer, happier, more excited. I can't remember when I first learned about this practice of gratitude, but I've been doing it for a long time now. It's really just how I think about things. It's a habit for me now.

For example, in my own life, I don’t love handling paperwork, managing schedules, or dealing with the endless details of running my business.

Just figuring out priorities, finding quality people to help me, and making sure everything runs efficiently. But then I think about what I’m grateful for—my health, my incredible family, the laugh I had with my son before he left for work, and the work I get to do every day. It truly fulfills me. And so, managing the business—that’s part of that.

When stuff is hard or sad or busy, I step back and I think for a couple of minutes about how great life really is. Research backs this up. Studies show that people who practice gratitude regularly experience lower stress levels, better sleep, and even improved relationships. So why is that? Because gratitude rewires our brain.

It trains our mind to look for positives, which naturally boosts your mood and energy. And when you're in a better headspace, you're less likely to get bogged down by resentment or negative feelings or sadness. All right. Now that we know why gratitude works, let's talk about how to make it a part of your life. Because the last thing you need is another thing on your to do list. So don't worry. This habit is simple, quick, and totally doable.

First, start small. Maybe you want to start by beginning your day writing down three things that you're grateful for. They don't have to be big or profound. It can be as simple as I'm grateful for my cozy bed. I'm grateful for the career that I have. I'm grateful for that funny meme my friend sent me yesterday.

The key is to focus on what genuinely makes you smile or feel good, and never to repeat the same thing twice. So, if you have a gratitude journal and today you write down three things that you're grateful for over the next ten days, you'll have 30 different things that you're grateful for. Now imagine how that feels when you go back and take a look.

Second, do it consistently. Habits stick when they're tied to something you already do. You might want to consider pairing your gratitude practice with a routine task, something that you do every day, like drinking your morning coffee or brushing your teeth, or walking your dog. This makes it easier to remember and harder to skip, and helps you to create the habit of practicing gratitude.

Thirdly, feel the gratitude. Don't just write your list one, two, three and move on. Take a moment to really feel the gratitude. Let it sink in. Think about why you're grateful. Feel the tingly, happy feeling inside of you. This really helps to deepen the impact and helps you start your day on a way more positive note.

Fourthly, use it as a reset. Gratitude isn't just a morning thing. Whenever I feel overwhelmed during the day, I pause and I think of one thing that I'm grateful for in that moment. It's a simple way for me to shift my energy and get back on track. I shift my energy from feeling unhappy or negative, or focusing on all the problems to happier, more positive energy. And I can start to see the solutions.

Five is, reflect at night. End your day with just a quick gratitude check in. What went well today? What made me smile? Reflecting on the positives before bed helps you to sleep better and sets the tone for the next day. Look, life isn't going to magically slow down. The demands aren't going to disappear overnight, but what can change is how you show up for your day.

How you show up for each experience in your day. Gratitude. It isn't just about saying thank you. It's about shifting your mindset, reclaiming your energy, and breaking free from the cycle of stress and resentment and unhappy negative feelings. Here's the challenge. Start today. Write down three things that you're grateful for. Now. Feel them and see how it changes your day.

It might feel small, but trust me, it's small things that create the biggest shifts. Because you deserve days that feel calm, joyful, productive, and exciting.

You've got this.
